The Observation Home and Children Home (Boys), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, is a reputed social welfare institution established in 1957 by eminent freedom fighters and social reformers Late Vijayendraji Kabra, Cooperative Leader and Former MP Late Balasaheb Pawar, Freedom Fighter and Founder Secretary Late S. K. alias Hirubhau Jagtap, Freedom Fighter Late Pundalikrao Ranjangaonkar, and Late Gurubakshsinghji Chhabda.
The institution is managed by the District Probation and After Care Association and is registered as a Public Charitable Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. It functions in close coordination with the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra, and is duly registered and approved under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, with official capacity to care for 50 children.
The institution admits boys aged 6 to 18 years through orders of the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. It provides care and protection to orphaned, neglected, abandoned, destitute children, children from single-parent or imprisoned families, street children, child labourers, and children in conflict with law. The children are provided free shelter, nutritious food, clothing, education, educational materials, healthcare facilities, counselling, and music training, ensuring their holistic development, rehabilitation, and social reintegration. Since its establishment, the institution has been continuously serving vulnerable children, with approximately 20,000 children benefiting from its services. In recognition of its outstanding contribution to child welfare, the institution has been honored with the prestigious Ahilyabai Holkar Award by the Government of Maharashtra for the year 1997–1998.
